Home Energy Reviews

We can carry out whole house energy reviews – leading to a Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) or a Green Deal Advice Report (GDAR). The GDAR is the result of a Green Deal Assessment. These are designed for owner occupier, landlords and tenant householders to have a full energy efficiency “MOT” assessment of their home in order to identify what improvements could be made.

We cost our home energy reviews on an individual basis depending on the type of review you require, the size of the property and the distance we have to travel.

What type of Home Energy Review do you require?

Energy Performance Certificate

A domestic energy assessment is required in order to produce an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). EPCs were introduced by Law in 2007 as part of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) as an important step in highlighting people’s awareness of energy wastage.

All domestic buildings in the UK that are available to buy or rent are legally obliged to have an EPC. Valid for a maximum of 10 years the EPC must be carried out by a licensed Domestic Energy Assessor. Certain dwelling types are exempt from EPCs, such as listed buildings and buildings in use for less than 4 months per year.

The assessment Energy Performance Certificate requires a non-invasive inspection of the whole property including a quick look into the loft. Information is collected about the fabric of property - walls, roof, floor and windows type. Information is also collected about space heating and water heating systems including any renewable systems like solar PV. Most of this information is collected from observational evidence, but some it may require documentary evidence like certificates for cavity wall, double-glazed windows and loft insulation and Micro-generation (MCS) certificates for Solar PV and other renewable systems. Photographs need to be taken for auditing purposes.

Measurements are also taken to determine the size of the property.

Depending upon the size of the property it can usually take from one to one and a half hours to do the survey. The home owner does not need to be present. However, a responsible person over 18 years needs to be available to let the assessor into the property.

The output is an Energy Performance Certificate - normally emailed to the home owner within 24 hours. You do not receive any advice with this type of survey.

If you require a survey please contact Peter Bates on 01353 667973 or email her@pjb.co.uk

Home Energy Review

This survey consists of producing an Energy Performance Certificate as detailed above and impartial advice on what energy improvement measures can be made to your property and what renewable energy systems might be appropriate. We can also advice you on whether there are any grants available.

The output is an Energy Performance Certificate and either a verbal or written report. This Home Energy Review has been found to be particularly useful with new home owners or those who are planning any extensive home improvements.

Depending upon the size of the property it can usually take from two to two and a half hours to do the survey.and have a discussion about what improvements can be made.

Green Deal Assessment

This assessment consists of producing an Energy Performance Certificate as detailed above and an Occupancy Assessment (OA) - both of which form a Green Deal Advice Report (GDAR). Green Deal Assessments are required for claiming grants under various government initiatives like the Renewal Heat Incentive and the Green Deal Communities Fund.

OA

The Occupancy Assessment consists of collecting information about how the occupants use the property including energy billing information if available. The assessment can determine how you compare with an average house-holder of a similar type of property. Associated advice will also be given.

Depending upon the size of the property it can usually take around two and a half hours to do the survey.and have a discussion about what improvements can be made.

This will capture information about your property and help us to understand whether it would be appropriate for you to have full on-site Green Deal Assessment. If you complete the online assessment you will also receive a free online Energy Assessment Report - that will give you a rough idea about the energy efficiency of your property.
