The Society for the protection of Ancient Buildings has just produced a new and details report that is very relevant for home-owners of older houses particularly in conservation areas or a listed building. It contain views and information from specialists and members of the Society’s staff. The briefings aim to offer cutting-edge information to help both owners and building professionals.

This report comes at a very important time when the government through the Green Deal is offering a number of grants including up to £6000 for internal and external wall insulation under the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund.

New home-owners will get a 500 pound bonus for making energy efficiency improvements

New home-owners will now get a £500 bonus if they make energy efficiency improvements to their homes that they have bought them in the last 12 months. This is in addition to up to another £7100 that might be available to them under the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund that was launched by the UK government in early June 2014.

Improvement measures include solid wall insulation for older houses, a new condensing gas boiler, cavity wall insulation and replacing single glazed windows with double or triple glazed windows. There is also a £100 cash-back towards the cost of a Green Deal Assessment and accompanying advice from a Green Deal Advisor – who will be able to recommend the most appropriate energy efficiency improvements in the form of a Green Deal Advice Report (GDAR)
